

Praised for her deeply felt musicality and inspiring temperament, Hyeju Jung is emerging as one of the most interesting and talented young conductors of South Korea/Germany. She won the 1st prize at the Lake Como International Conducting Competition 2021. Before such great results, she was also a finalist in the Arthur Nikisch International Conducting Competition 2020 and at the 2nd European Union Conducting Competition 2020, with more than 300 applicants from all over the world, at which she was a finalist and award winner, brought her immediate international attention.
Appointed as new music director of Junges Orchester Hamburg from the first half of 2022, Hyeju Jung holds already since the beginning of the 2019/20 season the position of guest conductor of the Symphony Orchestra Neckar-Alb. Previous highlights include performances with the Philharmonisches Orchester Würzburg, the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Vogtland Philharmonie, the Hofer Sinfoniker, the Mendelssohn Academy Orchestra Leipzig(Germany), the Prague Philharmonia(Czech Republic), the Salzburg Chamber Soloists(Austria), the Lake Como Philharmonie Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo(Italy), the Mikkeli City Orchestra, the Jyväskylä Symphony Orchestra and the Joensuu Orchestra(Finland), the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra(Greece), the Pazardjik Symphony Orchestra(Bulgaria). She has also served as Assistant Conductor to Ari Rasilainen at the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie and to Georg Christoph Sandmann at the 46th Sächsische Chor- und Instrumental woche.
Hyeju Jung is passionate about her work also as an opera conductor.
In South Korea she collaborated at the Korea Chamber Opera Festival at the Korea National Theater with Mozart’s “The Schauspieldirektor”, Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi”, Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Mozart and Salieri” and Mozart’s “The Magic Flute”, among others. At the University Opera Festival she performed Mozart’s “Cosi fan Tutte” and Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci” with the Seoul Opera Ensemble. In Germany she led performances of Eduard Künnecke’s “Der Vetter aus Dingsda” at the Opernschule Würzburg, Arnold Schönberg’s “Pierrot Lunaire” with the Ensemble Neue Musik Würzburg and Haydn’s “The Creation” at the International Mendelssohn Academy Leipzig. In the 2021/22 season she worked as a vocal and choir coach an art musical "UNDINE" (premiere) at the Theater Chemnitz, Germany.
After completing her studies in composition at the Sang-Myung University in Seoul, Hyeju Jung was granted a scholarship to study Organ at the Korea National University of Arts, from which she holds the Bachelor's degree. Later she moved to Germany and completed first Master's drgree with Prof. Martin Schmeding and Organ Improvisation with Prof. Thomas Lennartz at the University of Music and Theater “Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy” in Leipzig. She also studied at the Rice University of Houston, USA with Prof. Ken Cowan, while going into conducting with Georg Christoph Sandmann and later with Prof. Ari Rasilainen at the University of Music in Würzburg, Germany, from which she holds the Master's degree in Orchestral Conducting. Furthermore, she has attended master classes and workshops with Maestro Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Riccardo Frizza, Johannes Schlaefli, Lior Shambadal, Bruno Weil, Alim Shakh.
